The Kings are one of the oldest continuously operating professional basketball franchises. They were originally the Rochester Seagrams founded in 1923 and joined the National Basketball League in 1945 as the Rochester Royals. In 1957 they relocated to Cincinnati to become the Cincinnati Royals. In 1972 the team relocated to Kansas City and were renamed the Kansas City-Omaha Kings because they intitially split their home games between Kansas City and Omaha. In 1975, the Kings became the Kansas City Kings only played in Kansas City. The team moved to Sacramento in 1985.
